Every country and culture have their own unique folk stories, myths and legends, that transcends borders, boundaries, race, and colour. And within the West African region of the Gambia is the story of the Ninki Nanka. West African culture was transferred to the Caribbean when West African slaves were taken there, and the Ninki Nanka is a legendary creature in West African folklore that has been described as the most frightening spirit around.
Welcome!
Welcome to Phoenix Santiago Publishing Limited (PSP), your specialist publishing house for books by black and ethnic authors. PSP was set up to give black and ethnic authors the opportunity to publish their stories and reach an audience more specific to their work. PSP is dedicated to providing a range of cultural and historical publications that will allow minority ethnic readers to re-access their history, culture and heritage. And as an example, The Caribbean Duppy Series is a series of six children’s books which focus on the ghostly folklore and culture of the Caribbean region. Duppy (ghost) stories were passed down from generation to generation and taught through ‘word of mouth,’ usually by the elders of the regional communities. These stories are disappearing quite quickly and it’s important to pass on these historical teachings to our next generation.
